Press Release: NY State of Health Recognizes Hispanic Heritage Month

 The Official Health Plan Marketplace to Participate in Hispanic Heritage Month Events Across the State

 

ALBANY (September 12, 2014) – NY State of Health, the State’s official health plan marketplace, today announced its participation in Hispanic Heritage Month events in communities across New York State.

 “These events provide the ideal opportunity to increase awareness about the benefits of having health insurance coverage and the financial help available through NY State of Health in Hispanic communities throughout the state”, said Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health. “We will have experts available at each event to provide assistance to people in both Spanish and English.  Attendees will be able to make an appointment with an assistor to enroll in a health plan or simply learn more about NY State of Health”.   

NY State of Health-Sponsored Hispanic Heritage Month Events:

September 13th - Albany - Summer at the Plaza: Hispanic Heritage Celebration

September 14th - Yonkers - Mexican & Central American Independence Festival

September 16th - Syracuse - Upstate Latino Summit & Expo

September 21st - Queens - Carnaval de la Cultura Latina

The next open enrollment begins on November 15, 2014 for coverage starting on January 1, 2015. New Yorkers eligible for Medicaid and all children can enroll in coverage through NY State of Health at any time during the year. NY State of Health’s Small Business Marketplace for employers with 50 or fewer employees is open to enrollment throughout the year.

The NY State of Health website, Customer Service Center and certified in-person assistors statewide are available to assist eligible New Yorkers with enrollment. More than 90 of NY State of Health’s assistor organizations are able to provide help to consumers in Spanish. Individuals and families can get information and enroll in a plan online at nystateofhealth.ny.gov, by calling toll-free at 1-855-355-5777, or in-person with a certified assistor. Information about in-person assistors by county and the languages spoken can be found on the NY State of Health website at http://info.nystateofhealth.ny.gov/IPANavigatorSiteLocations.
