Characteristics of Nonelderly New Yorkers Likely to Enroll in the Health Insurance Exchanges Under the Affordable Care Act

This analysis, based upon the Urban Institute’s Health Insurance Policy Simulation Model (HIPSM), was prepared as a supplement to the earlier analyses prepared by the Urban Institute. This report highlights demographic characteristics of individuals who will enroll in Qualified Health Plans in the Individual Exchange and in the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) in the New York Health Benefit Exchange. For reference, the same information is provided for the entire nonelderly New York population. Demographic characteristics captured in the analysis include: age group, Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI), race/ethnicity, health insurance unit type, self reported health status, language spoken at home, gender, education, and current coverage status.
