NY State of Health Educates Soon-to-be College Graduates About Affordable Health Coverage Options

More than 40 Certified Enrollment Assistors Visit Colleges Across New York State

ALBANY, NY (April 18, 2019) – NY State of Health, the state’s official health plan Marketplace, will be hosting informational and enrollment events at more than 20 colleges across New York State throughout the week of April 22, 2019. Certified in-person assistors will be available in high traffic areas on campuses to speak with soon-to-be graduates about how to get affordable, quality health coverage through the Marketplace.

“When a student graduates from college, they may no longer have access to a campus health plan, or they may no longer be covered under their parent’s health plan,” said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. “By partnering with SUNY and other colleges throughout the state, we are able to work with students, so they don’t go a day without health coverage and help them find good, low-cost health plan choices through the Marketplace.”

“We appreciate the New York State Department of Health for their partnership in reaching out to our students, some of whom will need to purchase their own health insurance when they graduate,” said State University of New York (SUNY) Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Tod Laursen. “With more than 80 percent of SUNY graduates remaining in New York, we are fortunate to have a vibrant health exchange that gives New Yorkers seamless access to affordable insurance coverage.”

Details on the colleges participating in these events with NY State of Health can be found here.

Many students may qualify for free or very low-cost health insurance coverage through Medicaid or the Essential Plan. Enrollment in the Essential Plan, Medicaid and Child Health Plus is open year-round.

All health plans offered through NY State of Health cover preventative care, such as routine doctor visits and screenings, at no additional cost.  For more information about Marketplace health plans and enrolling, visit: nystateofhealth.ny.gov.
