Press Release: Check it Out! NY State of Health and Libraries Throughout the State Team Up to Get New Yorkers Covered

ALBANY, N.Y. (December 27, 2017) – NY State of Health, the state's official health plan Marketplace, is partnering with the New York Library Association and the New York Public Library to help consumers learn about quality, affordable health insurance. Certified enrollment assistors will be on-site at more than 50 library events throughout December and January to answer questions, make appointments and conduct health plan enrollments.

“Even in today’s world of smartphones and tablets, the public library is still the place where many people go to get their information,” said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. “Through this partnership, library patrons in communities throughout the State can enroll in health plans on-site, making signups convenient and easy. Thank you to the New York Library Association and the New York Public Library for once again helping us get New Yorkers covered.”

Most of the events will take place in the following regions:  Bronx, Capital Region, Central NY, Rochester, Southern Tier and North Country. To find a NY State of Health library event in your community click here.

Jeremy Johannesen, Executive Director, NY State Library Association said, “Libraries are the trusted source of information in every community, and the New York library community stands ready to once again aid NY State of Health in ensuring that everyone is able to access the services that are available to them. This partnership is yet another example of how libraries continue to be an essential resource to every New Yorker.”

Christopher Platt, New York Public Library Chief Branch Library Officer said, "New Yorkers depend on their libraries to provide reliable information that supports their life and livelihoods in this great city, which is why the New York Public Library has partnered with NY State of Health on the critical issue of affordable healthcare. Visitors to the Library’s branches will receive information to educate themselves about the options available and find out how to enroll in affordable healthcare plans through the Marketplace."

More than 4 million – more than 1 in 5 New Yorkers – have enrolled in quality, affordable health insurance coverage through NY State of Health.

The Marketplace offers a range of programs and allows New Yorkers to quickly compare health plan options and apply for assistance that could lower the cost of health coverage.  For eligible lower-income New Yorkers, the Essential Plan is extremely popular. For eligible individuals, coverage could be as little as $20 - less than a dollar a day - or $0 for comprehensive, high quality coverage with no deductible and free preventive care.

Open Enrollment in a Qualified Health Plan continues through January 31, 2018. Enrollment in the Essential Plan, Medicaid and Child Health Plus is open all year.
