Press Release: New York State Department of Health Announces Expansion of Online Tool to include the Empire Plan for New York State Employees

NYS Provider & Health Plan Look Up Now Includes Provider Network Data for the Empire Plan used by more than 1 million New York State Employees

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 15, 2019) – The New York State Department of Health today announced that the NYS Provider and Health Plan Look-Up tool has expanded to now include provider network information for the New York State Health Insurance Plan’s (NYSHIP) Empire Plan, providing more comprehensive information to New York State and local government employees and retirees enrolled in the NYSHIP Empire Plan.

The NYS Provider and Health Plan Look-Up launched in May 2017 to help the more than 4.6 million New Yorkers enrolling in a health plan through NY State of Health, the state’s official health plan Marketplace. The Look-Up is designed to give New Yorkers the information they need to make the best health care decisions for themselves and their families. By using this tool, consumers can search for their preferred providers, including doctors and hospitals, to see which health plans have those providers in their network. Today’s announcement expands the tool to include the large network of providers in the Empire Plan used by more than 1 million New York State and local government employees and retirees.

“The NYS Provider and Health Plan Look-Up helps empower consumers by making the important decision of choosing a health plan easier, especially during the Marketplace’s Open Enrollment Period,” said New York State Health Commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker. “We are pleased to expand this Tool to reach more New Yorkers as they choose the best health plan for them and their families.”

“The New York State Health Insurance Program provides high quality health care benefits to 1.2 million State and local government employees and their families,” said Department of Civil Service Acting Commissioner Lola W. Brabham. “We are pleased to partner with the Department of Health to provide this useful online database to our members - so that every enrollee is able to make the best informed health care decisions.”

With today’s announcement, the NYS Provider & Health Plan Look-Up now includes information on providers who participate with all plans offered through the Marketplace including Qualified Health Plans, the Essential Plan, Child Health Plus, Medicaid Managed Care, commercial insurance products and NYSHIP’s Empire Plan. The Look-Up tool does not include provider network information for self-funded plans that are not regulated by New York State.
