Press Release: NY State of Health Aims to Reach Uninsured New Yorkers at Libraries

Essential Plan, Medicaid, and Child Health Plus Enrollment is Ongoing

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 10, 2017) – NY State of Health, the state's official health plan Marketplace is holding information sessions at libraries throughout the state to reach uninsured New Yorkers. Certified in-person assistors will be available to answer questions and provide enrollment assistance during more than 200 information sessions at 77 libraries in February, recognized as National Library Lover’s month. Although 2017 open enrollment for Qualified Health Plans has ended, enrollment for the Essential Plan, Medicaid and Child Health Plus is available all year long.

“Libraries serve as local information hubs and gathering spots, especially in the winter, so we’ve made it easy for consumers to learn more about their health plan options,” said NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore. “As part of our ongoing effort to reach consumers in locations that are convenient to them, we encourage consumers to talk with our assistors at their local library to find out what programs would be best for them.”

Consumers can find a library information session by visiting: https://info.nystateofhealth.ny.gov/libraryevents

More than 3.6 million New Yorkers are enrolled in coverage through the Marketplace. Consumers who didn’t enroll in a Qualified Health Plan by January 31 won’t be able to enroll for the rest of 2017, unless they have a qualifying life event, such as getting married, having or adopting a baby or turning 26 (when they are no longer eligible for coverage under their parents’ plan).
