Press Release: NY State of Health Launches Statewide Tour to Encourage Health Insurance Enrollment

Marvel Super Heroes Coming to a Mall Near You

ALBANY, N.Y. (January 8, 2015) – NY State of Health today announced a statewide “Sign Up NY” tour to offer information and encourage enrollment for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who lack health insurance.

The tour, which takes place in malls across the state, features in-person assistors who will be onsite to provide information on enrollment, including qualifications for financial assistance. They will also be available to answer questions, and schedule appointments at other locations across New York State. The tour, which runs through February 15, will stop at malls in Albany, Long Island, Queens, the Bronx, Rochester, Queensbury, Plattsburgh, Horseheads, Syracuse, Poughkeepsie, and Buffalo.

“For people who lack health insurance, the best resolution for the New Year is to enroll in the NY State of Health marketplace,” said Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health. “Consumers have a choice of quality, affordable plans, and will have the peace of mind of knowing that they are covered in the New Year.”

In addition to featuring a Marvel Super Hero for family fun on select tour dates, the mall tour will provide brochures and information on eligibility, how to enroll, and how to pick a health plan. Research shows that many uninsured individuals are not aware of this enrollment period and that they may be eligible for financial assistance. During the last enrollment period, nine out of ten people received help paying for their coverage.

“We are delighted to participate in the “Sign Up NY” tour and to be partnering with NY State of Health to spread the word about affordable health insurance options in New York State,” said Jonathan Rheingold, Vice President of Ad Sales and Custom Solutions of Marvel Entertainment. “By adding fun elements to the program including character appearances, coloring pages for kids, and collectible comic books for Marvel fans, we hope to help meet a very serious objective – getting more people enrolled in health insurance.”
