What To Do If You Lose Your Coverage

If you’ve received a notice letting you know that you or your family members are no longer eligible for coverage under Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or Essential Plan, you still have options to keep you and your family covered.

If you think the decision is wrong

If you lost your health coverage through NY State of Health and think you should still be covered, you can ask us to reconsider and change our determination.  A request to change our determination can be made by contacting the Marketplace through the informal review process and by requesting an appeal.

If your notice came from your county’s Medicaid office or the New York City Human Resources Administration, contact that office and follow their instructions to appeal their decision.

If you need other coverage

The goal of NY State of Health is to help you and your family get health insurance you can afford.  If you no longer qualify for Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or the Essential Plan, you still have the option to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan. Most people get help paying their monthly premium for this coverage.  There are several ways to find plans to keep yourself and your family covered.

Get Help from an Enrollment Assistor

Enrollment assistors are experts in your community who are trained to help you find the best health care plans for your needs.  Their help is free.  If you already have an assistor, contact them so they can help you find another plan that will meet your needs.  If you don’t already have an assistor, you can find one in your preferred language using the assistor search tool.
